If I gave you my naked heart
bared my virtue and all my lust
would you receive it, for a start
or turn your face in pure disgust?

If I should give my heart to you
say ‘all I am I show you here’
could I be offered your heart too
or would I see you flee in fear?

I know too well my heart may not
be at all a pretty sight
though it’s the only one I’ve got
I fear it will not look all right

So still I wonder, do I dare
to claim your heart and offer mine?
Perhaps if it was in your care
you could make it start to shine?
